Prostate Cryotherapy Instructions
- Follow the Engel Bowel Preparation Instructions fully except there is no need to take Neomycin and Flagyl. This step is omitted for cryotherapy.
- Do not eat anything after midnight the night before your scheduled surgery.
- Cryoablation of the prostate is either performed in a surgery center as an outpatient or in the hospital. In either case, you will be sent home with a catheter in your bladder, as otherwise it would be very difficult to urinate in the first five days or so. You will be instructed as to when a follow up appointment will be, and you will be asked to remove your catheter the day prior to the visit at midnight. The nurses at the hospital or surgery center will show you how to remove your catheter quite simply.
- Expect some bruising in the scrotum, and expect swelling as well. Occasionally, we may need to reinsert the catheter for a limited period of time until one can urinate on their own again.
